about

Rode Grey s/t (Nostorca MC)
"Some of you out there might've been wondering what the hell ever happened to King Darves; that mysterious young Jersey man who shot out that one dilly of a full lencth on DeStijl a few years back and then just vanished into the ether of night shifts and day huffing.
Well, don't tip the toaster into the tub quite yet. He's still making his special brand of late night ache under the Darves moniker and I'll hip you to a Bandcamp link to his newer stuff later on in the program. Right now, I would like to talk nice and silly about Rode Grey, another sonic concern of the mustached young man. Those pining for that voice of conceptualized desolation and guitar of mile wide strum Darves is known for might get their asses a little chapped over the contents of Rode Grey's debut cassette. Instead of all that mentioned above, we get sounds made by the man while he was plopped behind an array of electronic devices. Maybe he was even wearing a pair of shades during these sessions? Perhaps even a Janet Jackson mock neck long sleeve shirt from her “Rhythm Nation” tour? Sure? Why not! Lets go for broke! I suppose I could make myself look like a really clever pair of trousers and compare Rode Grey to the strains of present day electronic-meisters like M.C. Skat Cat or D.J. Tuna Breath. I probably could even score a few points paralleling him to obscure blip pioneers of yore such as Pennis Goonard or “Big” Frank Fuhrer. But no, I won't. If anything, Rode Grey reminds me of the long suppressed soundtracks Gregory Dark later rejected as “Too downright fucking creepy”. And if that ain't enough of a ringing endorsement for Rode Grey, then I might as well just stay in this waterless, abandonded hot tub I've been living in for the past six months and let the raccoons finally have at my nethers."
